What is the PBA?
The Professional & Business Association (PBA) is a Seventh-day Adventist supporting organization established in 1969 to provide low-cost loans to Georgia-Cumberland Conference churches and schools at an interest rate significantly reduced from commercial options. The core of PBA is a group of individuals and some churches who have placed a portion of their savings into a secure savings account currently earning 4% interest. The “win-win” for all, is those funds are used to further the mission and ministry of our Conference institutions. Placing savings with PBA, therefore not only gives you a safe secure place for your savings, it also gives you the opportunity of participating in the mission of the Georgia-Cumberland Conference.
Beyond the loans PBA provides, we also contribute a large portion of our proceeds to evangelistic projects such as the Magabooks program. This program supports young people who spend their summers doing door to door literature evangelism. That support translates into tuition scholarships enabling the students to attend SAU. This year’s contribution was $90,000!
Quick Questions/Details
- The minimum savings we accept is $2,000 and the maximum is $500,000.
- Before they are approved, all of the loans are highly vetted. There are a number of policies and levels of tithe and giving histories which determine the amount of loans institutions qualify for. Due diligence is carefully done both by the Conference Association and by legal Counsel. A number of Conference Committees then review and approve of the loans before the request comes to the PBA Board.
- Because of this careful process your savings are very safe. All loans are guaranteed by the Conference. There has never been a single default since PBA was established.
- Liquidity? – If an investor has cash flow needs, your funds are usually available within a week. For significant amounts, we ask for at least a 90-day notice but usually can provide them much sooner. We do want investors to think of this savings account as a long-term investment.
- Your interest is simply added to your account. Statements are mailed biannually along with a 1099 form.
- To open an account, simply complete the attached form and transfer it with a check to the Professional & Business Association, P.O. Box 467, Collegedale, TN 37315. Funds can also be electronically transferred.
